Specific and robust - unaffected by vapors or food in the mouth No change of custody- no chance of wrongful identification or any lost test OUR COMPETITION There are competing products in this market with a range of features, prices and complexity. None of them provide the combination of speed, accuracy, price and simplicity that Ttest does. Distinguishing characteristic of each product is whether the test delivers an immediate onsite result or whether the sample being tested has to be shipped to a laboratory for test results and cost. Other products currently on the market are too expensive, inconvenient and cumbersome. In most cases competitors products require that the specimen be sent to a lab and to wait for results. Ttest HIV Stik will provide an easy-to-use, instant, inexpensive and extremely accurate test that can be used without waiting for lab results. This is important especially in developing and economically poor countries where HIV-positive people do not return receive their test results. As a result, they may be infecting others and may not be receiving needed treatment. Many HIV-positive individuals do not learn their status until diagnosed with AIDS. Ttests HIV Stik is the only available product that is a true one step, instant results HIV test. The relationship between saliva and HIV Saliva and blood are the most effective means in detecting HIV antibodies. Similar information can be obtained from saliva testing as from whole blood testing because saliva is an ultra-filtrate of blood. This means that non-protein bound (or free) metabolites, those not bound to protein in the blood, freely diffuse into the saliva. Since saliva is a filtrate of blood, HIV antibodies in saliva parallel those in blood and saliva is an excellent indicator of HIV antibodies. Blood Collection Tests There are HIV blood collection tests available on the market that can be performed by an individual or by a health professional at a testing site that require puncturing or pricking the finger. The standard test for HIV that screens blood specimen is known as ELISA or Enzyme Linked Immunoassay. These HIV tests usually are sent to labs. When the test is sent out to a lab, where it is run in batches, results often are not available for up to two weeks. In the U.S., the FDA currently does not allow a self-test for HIV with instant results. Any HIV test that is performed by the individual being tested (self-test) must be sent to a lab for results. There is a rapid HIV blood collection test available (OraQuick) that produces results without being sent out to a lab, but requires that a health professional at a testing site administer the test. Products in the Blood Collection category include: The Home Access HIV-Test System, Discreet AIDS - HIV Test Kit and OraQuick. Saliva Collection Tests One saliva collection test available on the market is the OraSure HIV-1 Oral Specimen Collection Device. Using this product, a specimen is collected and then must be sent to a lab for results, which are available in approximately two weeks. A new product not yet on the market, but just approved by the FDA,10 is the OraQuick Rapid HIV Antibody Test. This product entails a two-part process requiring health workers to wipe a treated cotton swab along the gums for approximately two minutes, stick the swab into a special testing device and wait 20 minutes for the results. If not enough saliva is collected, then the testing is negated and the subject has to be retested. The retail price for each of these products is more than four times higher than Ttests HIV Stik.
